About Desert Springs

Tee Times have looked for a suitable venue in Spain to compliment our other golf holiday destinations and we are pleased to present Desert Springs to our clients.

Located on a Meseta above the dry Almanzora river valley, which lies between Cartagena and Almeria, Desert Springs is a very unique resort.
The resort is based around Europe’s first and only desert golf course and beckons all those who desire an outstanding golf holiday experience.

This area of Spain has without exception the sunniest, warmest and driest winters in all of Europe. The average yearly temperature of 65deg and with 3,300 hours of sunshine per year, make this for an ideal all year round destination for a golf holiday.

The region is famous for its clean sea waters and abundance of fish and offers the visitor a wealth of activities as well as old-fashioned shops, customs, fiestas and many fine restaurants.

This unspoilt part of Spain will provide golfers and non golfers alike with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to enjoy themselves in.

Desert Springs resort has been designed around its award winning golf course and when driving into the resort along its private drive you will realise that you are coming to something special for your golf holiday, when you reach the gated entrance with the course and properties beyond.

There are two great restaurants on the complex to choose from, during your golf holiday, for your lunches and evening meals. The Crocodile Club Restaurant is the resort centre of Desert Springs and The Lodge @ Desert Springs. It is set on a high point overlooking the complex and affords views to the sea and the surrounding mountains of Serriana Almeriense. The Crocodile Club is housed in an enormous African style thatched longhouse, which was built with African wood poles and reed by South African craftsmen who came across from their country to build it.

The restaurant serves an eclectic menu of Mediterranean, Pacific Rim and Thai dishes, as well as, fresh fish and grills, Pastas, Pizzas and Hamburgers. Indoor or outdoor dining options are available, with seating around an open fire inside and terraces in semi-secluded gardens outside. The Rosewood bar at the Crocodile club, which is made of huge trunks of old dried rosewood from the Namibian desert, is an ideal meeting place and features a delicious but dangerous, selection of “Croctails”  The El Torrente, is without doubt, Cuevas del Almanzora’s premier restaurant. It is situated inside the golf clubhouse and provides its guests with a stunning setting as they dine, as it looks out over Powder Creek and its cascades on the expanse of water that is known as Steamboat Lake.

El Torrente is famous for its fine Spanish dining which includes several very special local dishes of meat and fresh fish. There is a bar and deck area to be enjoyed here which serves a wide range of light meals and snacks during daylight hours and the menu includes tasty soups, tapas, salads, burgers, pasta, wraps and filled ciabatta’s.

So whether you are looking for a fantastic dining experience or a simple daytime meal, the El Torrente will not disappoint during your golf holiday. The El Chiringuito is another option for Desert Spring’s guests to enjoy a light meal and it also serves superb healthy fruit punches which you can enjoy at the poolside bar.

During the construction of the golf course and complex a discovery was made of a cave, known as La Cueva del Almanzora, which has been refurbished and now houses a bar and meeting rooms, which is ideal for groups who wish to have a private function organised for them.

The towns of Cuevas del Almanzora, Mojacar, Garrucha and Carboneras are all within a short distance of Desert Springs thus giving you many further dining options during your golf holiday.
The whole Desert Springs resort is designed to provide all guests with a relaxing and pleasant time, so there are other sports to be enjoyed such as tennis, football and cricket. There is also a gym and health spa, thus making this an ideal resort for couples, groups and families alike. Desert Springs continually strive to take the resort to higher levels of excellence and their committed task is to exceed your hopes and dreams. With its warm and friendly approach to all their guests and a level of service that you wouldn’t often expect on that side of the pond, makes Desert Springs very different and this is apparent from the moment you arrive for your golf holiday.

So all in all, Tee Times recommend this as a great destination for your golf holiday, so contact us whether you are looking for a long weekend break or wish to stay for longer periods. There is plenty to do and see in or around the resort and if you fancy playing a different golf course during your golf holiday here then there are two other great courses to play which are just a short distance away.
