As at Taba Heights there is plenty to do at this beautiful resort and whether you are looking for a relaxing golf holiday or want to experience some of the sites or activities of this wonderful resort and surrounding area, we are sure you will find something to suit your requirements.  The area of Soma Bay, which covers some 10 million Sq metres, is incredibly beautiful and being surrounded by the Red Sea on all sides makes this one of the most relaxing and spectacular resorts in the world to stay at.  As like most areas of Egypt there is ancient history to be seen everywhere and the area of Soma Bay is no exception.  Trips can be arranged to visit Luxor, once the capital of ancient Egypt, and here you will find the “Greatest open air museum in the World” where you can witness the most incredible buildings such as the Temple of Karnak, which is over 2000 years old, The Valley of Kings, which has over 60 royal tombs, and The Valley of Queens which has the tomb of Nefertari. You can also take a trip along the Nile or enjoy a balloon flight over these amazing ancient monuments.  Nearer to your accommodation, at The Cascades Golf & Country Club in Soma Bay you will find many more ancient Egyptian places of interest such as Mons Claudians, at El Gouna, which lies between the Red Sea and the River Nile. These fascinating ruins of a Roman fortress, date back to 68 AD when it was used by the Romans as a quarry for building blocks of grey granite, to produce magnificent columns for buildings and temples in imperial Rome. This is the largest and best preserved Roman site in Egypt’s eastern desert and was inhabited for over 2 centuries by a thousand quarrymen and soldiers. One particular column, which lies at the site, is 16 metres long, 2.5 metres wide and weighs 209 tons.  Nearby in the town centre of Quseir, is the Ottoman fortress which was built by Sultan Selim in the 16th century to protect Egypt’s trade links with India. This fortress was occupied in 1799 by Napoleon’s army who placed cannons on the high walls and added a new viewing platform. In the early 1800’s the British took hold of the fortress after a fierce battle with Napoleon’s troops and they then added a new gate to the entrance. The Ottoman fortress fell into decline with the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 but has since been restored and all the previous slender of this fascinating fortress has been returned.  The towns of El Gouna, Hurghada, Makadi Bay & Safaga are all within a short drive from Soma Bay and if visiting these during your Tee Times golf holiday to Egypt, you will be treated to some other wonderful ancient ruins and places of interest such as the Myos Hormos, which dates back some 2000 years and was the Roman Empire’s principle port gateway to India and East Africa. Other places of interest to see in the other towns include the Mons Porphyrites, the Monastery of St Paul and St Anthony Monastery. In fact wherever you turn in this area of Egypt you will find some of the world’s most treasured and historic remnants of the ancient world.  Apart from these historical sites of interest there is much to do away from Cascades if you decide to get way for a day.
