Penina

Penina

The first course to be built in the Algarve for golfers to enjoy on their Algarve golf breaks., Completed in 1966 and designed by the late Sir Henry cotton, the Penina is unquestionably where golf started in this southern corner of the Iberian Peninsula. Prestigious events such as the daily Telegraph Seniors Match play event (2000/1), the National Finals of Audi Corp, together with major International and Charity competitions such as the Sir Henry Cotton Team Trophy and Sir Henry Cotton Charity Classic - in November and May, respectively - together with the Portuguese Algarve Open - 1998/99/2000 and 2004 - have all been hosted at this well-known Algarve golf breaks venue. The entire Resort has gained recognition and is a member of the Audubon Co-operative Sanctuary System, dedicated to the protection of wildlife. Penina also offers an excellent Golf academy for brushing up your game during your Algarve golf breaks.

Penina Hole 9Hole 9

This hole requires an accurate and long drive, ideally with a slight fade. The second shot also has to be long and accurate and it should be hit with a long iron or fairway wood to the narrow, long and well protected green, which needs to be well positioned in order to avoid threeputting.

Penina Hole 13Hole 13

This par-3 number 13 is one of the most demanding holes of the course. It requires a long and a well struck iron shot slightly to the centre left of the green to avoid the large lake situated next to the tee and goes all the way to the green. In ideal conditions, this green will hold the ball very well.

Penina Hole 18Hole 18

The final hole requires a drive to avoid the bunker on the right 200 metres away. A creek is crossing the fairway 250 metres from the tee. The second shot requires a fairway wood to the green which is well guarded by bunkers in front and to the left and right. A second option is a mid-iron to the area before the bunkers and third shot with a PW/SW.
