Located near Rio Maior, only a 35 minutes trip from the Lisbon North exit, Golden Eagle is one of the most fascinating and challenging Portuguese courses you'll play on your golf holiday. Created by the North American Rocky Roquemore, the course exhibits a typical modern north-american design, so to say, focusing on target golf.
The diversity of the holes, many of them truly special, the uncommon size of the bunkers and the scenic backdrop are some of the qualities that make this course one of best designs in the country and a real treat for golfers on their golf holiday to the Lisbon area.
Hole 7
At about 100 meters from the green there is a dogleg to the left. In order to play it well, this hole requires a long and straight drive. The second shot is rather difficult, between a corridor of pine trees, which leads to the green. The green is well protected by two bunkers. These features make this hole one of the most emblematic of this course, known as “buraco dos pinheiros”.
Hole 8
The longest hole in the entire course. There is a lake near the tees and a green protected by many, large and “frightening” bunkers. It is a stroke 7, which reflects well its degree of difficulty. It requires a long drive, also a long second shot, and a third shot to the green. It is extremely difficult, to reach the green in two, even from the yellow tees.
Hole 11
The green, being narrow and elevated, is well protected by bunkers and pronounced decline. Before the green, and reaching a distance of about 140 meters right up to the green, there is a water hazard, a lake. The fairway borders it on the left, with a pronounced incline, making it the second shot extremely difficult. It should also be highlighted that in the first 70 meters in front of the tee the shot is made over water.
