The American golf architect Robert Trent Jones (Senior), achieved a real masterpiece of golf course design at Troia providing a genuine test of skill for the lower handicap golfer together with enjoyment for the more modest player during their golf holiday.
When Bobby Jones stated the case for fine golf courses, he was talking forty years before Troia Golf was conceived; yet he may well have been describing the reality of Troia today, to players on their golf holiday. Quite simply it presents golfers of varying abilities with the opportunity to gain rewards for their own level and skills, presents exciting possibilities and demands exacting performance for the best results. This is worth the trip by ferry on your golf holiday to experience one of the great Portuguese course.
Hole 4
This is one of the most demanding holes of the course. Short as par 3, but needing a very accurate tee-shot. Out bounds to the left. Should the shot finish in the sand to the right or left of the green, the recovery is always difficult. This hole, offers an impressive view of the ocean.
Hole 13
A sharp dog leg left that demands a good drive, otherwise it is not easy to reach the green in two shots. This hole, presents exciting possibilities, and demands exacting performance for the best results.
Hole 18
The secret to par this hole is getting as close as possible to the green and have left a wedge short pitch to this treacherous green. Here again as in all the other par 5’s the placement of the second shot is of paramount importance. Everything else, it’s watching the view.
