Golf D'Amelkis

Moroccan golf courses are renowned for their visual appeal and none more so than the course at the Golf D'Amelkis golf club. Many have stated that this is the most eye-catching of all and perhaps the most interesting to play during your Moroccan golf holiday. It is the newest golf course to be constructed in Marrakesh. It was opened in 1995 and was designed by the renowned American course architect, Cabell b Robinson. Situated opposite the Royal golf course, Amelkis is only 12Km from the centre of Marrakesh and 6Km from La Mamounia at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. This parkland course is quite long compared to the others, measuring over 6657 metres and its par of 72 makes it a real challenge for even the most accomplished player on their golf holiday to Morocco. The courses fairways are lined with luxurious villas, century old palm trees and groves of palms and giant papyrus reeds. Its design is visually stunning and has been seductively mounded and with its expansive undulating fairways, and large target greens it makes for an exhilarating test during your golf holiday. The course is heavily bunkered, has many lakes and fountains and the waste bunkers, which have been created from crushed rock, compliment the landscape with their unusual colour. One of the unusual aspects of Cabell Robinsons design, is how he has integrated the"Khettaras" which are an 11th century irrigation works built by the Almoravides hydraulic experts. The ochre coloured clubhouse at Amelkis has been built in a Kasbah style and its grand setting provides views of the course and the Atlas Mountains from its terraced area.
