Beachwood Country

Durban-Beachwood2.jpg

When playing golf in South Africa, Beachwood Country Club is a must to play. Situated near Durban, the course was built in 1930 and in 1995 it was amalgamated with Durban Country Club, which is just a 5 minute drive away and has now become known as the Beachwood course at Durban Country Club.

The course was originally designed by Percy Gilbert Stiebel and was redesigned by the great Gary Player in 1995 when the courses were amalgamated thus making for a fantastic 36 hole complex to play golf in South Africa at.

Although Beachwood sits on the coast of the Indian Ocean there are no views of the sea but this does not detract from the stunning scenery and terrain that it has been built on and you will not be disappointed during your golf in South Africa.

The course, which is very tight so accuracy off the tee is a premium, is set out on undulating land and sits in a very tropical setting. The first nine holes run alongside a protected mangrove swamp and because of the courses elevation and tropical bush vegetation Beachwood with its par of 72 and length of 6016 metres is regarded as a special layout and although the majority of the holes are relatively straight this does not detract from the toughness of its challenge.

The facilities at the club are first class and there are 4 restaurants in the clubhouse to choose from. Virginia airport based is at the southern end of the course and golfers are often amazed as they watch small planes and helicopters take off and land above their heads.

This course is a great one to play during your visit to play golf in South Africa. So if you require something different and are looking for a challenge, make sure this course is on your list when taking a Tee Times break to play golf in South Africa.
