The Cascades Golf Courses |
![]()
There are two golf courses at The Cascades and both have been designed by the world famous South African golfer Gary Player. It is the first course to be opened on the Western Red Sea coast and is in fact the first championship course to be designed and built in the Middle East by a member of the so called “Big Three”, comprising of Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus & Gary Player.
The main course at Soma Bay is the 18 holes, par 72 Gary Player championship
golf course. This incredible course is laid out across the Soma Bay peninsula and surrounds the La Residence of The Cascades, which lies in the centre of the course. Each hole provides stunning views of the rugged desert and the clear blue waters of the Red Sea, which surround The Cascades Resort. The course is a joy to play, and measuring 6864 yards from the championship tees, it provides a stern test for all levels of golfer. The fairways are sown in Kikuyu grass providing a perfect surface to play your approach shots to the greens but don’t stray too much from these fairways as they are lined with Kikuyu rough and waste bunkers which are difficult to play from if you do. The Bermuda Tifdwarf greens are fast and smooth and are a delight to putt on and before getting to them you have 78 well placed bunkers to negotiate with your drives and approach shots as well as water hazards which feature on 9 of the holes, and some of these hazards are the Red Sea itself. This is a truly beautiful course and you will feel you are playing in a different world due to its amazing setting. It has been ranked one of the top 20 courses in the world for the past 3 years. The practice facilities at The Cascades are second to none. There are a total of 60 covered bays on the driving ranges, several practice pitching & chipping greens, as well as practice putting greens. This makes for a perfect place to hone your game during the winter months ready for the UK’s golfing season to start. The Gary Player designed par 3 challenge course at The Cascades provides an interesting interlude from the Championship course. It features 9 tricky par 3 holes, including an island green on the 9th, and provides a stern test of even the most accomplished player’s short game with well placed bunkers around many greens and on the breeziest of days your accuracy will be tested to the limit. The Seashore Paspalum greens provide testing putting surfaces, so bring your best putting game when playing this little golfing treasure.
