The Tee Times venues for our ladies only golf breaks in the central area of the Algarve, San Lorenzo and Vila Sol have been specially chosen for their high quality and the surrounding areas that they are situated in. The hotels, which are both situated on or close to their respective golf course’s are wonderfully relaxing and the golf courses provide a relaxed and tranquil setting in which to play your golf. San Lorenzo, which is situated within the Quinta do Lago development and forms part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, is an unbelievable place to stay and play, and because travelling time to and from Faro airport is minimal it makes for a very convenient location for our ladies only golf breaks.
The surrounding area has much to offer besides the golf and for ladies wishing to enjoy a taste of Portuguese culture and hospitality a visit to the local towns and villages will not disappoint. Faro, which has been known as the capital of the Algarve since 1756 and with its rich artistic heritage and many museums, is definitely worth a visit during your trip. Faro lies at the heart of the Formosa Estuary and for the Romans, who called it Ossonoba, it was an ideal place for defence and fishing during their reign. There are also many Roman ruins worth visiting at nearby Milreu.
The villages of Vale do Lobo, Salir, Barranco do Velho, Alte and Quinta do Lago are all within the Loule district close to Faro and give a perfect example of traditional Algarve building styles. Loule itself is quite fascinating as Roman remains have been found and the wall which weaves in and out of the houses probably dates back to the 10th century, when it was occupied by the Arabs.
Vila Sol will provide livelier ladies only Algarve golf breaks as it is only about a 10 minute journey to the centre of Vilamoura and its famous marina, where there are a large amount of quality restaurants and bars to choose from. Away from the golf course and the relaxing environment of Vila Sol, Vilamoura gives the opportunity to wander around a huge marina complex which has been attracting travellers from all over the world for many years. For the more adventurous, a trip out to some of the nearby towns such as Albufeira and Quarteira will give you a real modern Portuguese experience and make your trip that bit more interesting.
These are just a few of the many wonderful things you can see if you require a break away from the golf course during your Tee Times ladies only Algarve golf breaks and with the surrounding area’s many fine restaurants and bars for those requiring a lively nights entertainment San Lorenzo and Vila Sol are ideal.

The Monchique Spa Resort, which we have chosen for our ladies Algarve golf breaks, is situated in an incredible area of the Algarve. Surrounded by the 773 metre high wooded slopes of the Serra de Monchique, makes this the perfect place for one of Tee Times relaxing ladies Algarve golf breaks. During spring and summer these slopes are a profusion of colour as mimosa and camellias plants grow in abundance. If anyone feels energetic during their stay then a trip to the top of these slopes will give you breathtaking views of the sea and the vast plains of Alentejo, in the distance.
The town of Monchique is unique, its buildings and houses are typically Algarvean but have their own quirkiness making them different from the coastal houses. Monchique’s town centre is characterised by many narrow cobbled streets which criss cross up the hillside and have a spattering of cafes and small restaurants along them. The central square boasts an attractive paved area with benches, trees and a water feature which includes an example of a Moorish water wheel. It is so peaceful in Monchique that you may forget which day it is and if you are living in a world gone by.
Monchique has become famous for its Medronho, which is a liqueur made from the fruits of the arbutus,(strawberry)tree which grow in the surrounding hills. Apparently it is good for colds but it is, according to some, an acquired taste. Honey is also produced locally in the Monchique region and if you fancy spoiling yourself you can get a taste for it in one of the many cafes and pastelarias where they sell cakes and desserts which have been made using this local honey.
There is more to Monchique than just strawberry’s and honey as the towns prosperity was originally founded on weaving wool and linen to make sturdy fabrics necessary for the time. Nowadays the prosperity comes mainly from tourism and craftwork. An invention originating from Monchique town is a scissor chair which was believed to have been left by the Romans and these are still made today in various sizes. There are some interesting things to see in and around the town, on the hillside above are the ruins of the Nossa Senhora de Desterro, our lady of exile, a 17th century convent and in the gardens stands a magnolia tree, believed to be the largest in Europe and an outstanding fountain called Fonte dos Passarinhos. The Romans built the thermal spa baths here and in 1495 King Joao II visited the baths for curative treatments, to this day the unique character of Caldas de Monchique is difficult to explain.
The chapel of Santa Teresa sits at one end of the town and close by are steps which lead through the trees to a tranquil park which winds its way up the hillside. If you fancy getting away from the town for short while then the drive to Foia, which is 902 metres above sea level, will give you fantastic views across Portugal from Faro in the east, to Cape St Vincent in the west, and up to Serra da Arrabida near Lisbon, in the north.
So if you want a fascinating ladies golf break which you’ll talk about for months to come then Monchique is for you.
