Vilamoura has over the years become known as the capital for golf in the Algarve. It is actually the name of the area than any actual town. The nearest town, which is well worth a visit, is in fact the commercial and administrative town of Loule.
The area of Vilamoura is covered in a variety of vegetation, such as pine forests and recovered marshlands and was designed to be self-sufficient for locals and overseas property owners alike. The whole emphasis of this area, which surrounds the enormous but beautiful marina, is to provide a relaxing but fun destination for golfers and holiday makers alike. Compared to the other areas along the golden coast of the Algarve, Vilamoura is a bustling centre for various different sports and leisure activities and with its many bars, restaurants and clubs it makes for an ideal place for visitors and residents alike. Unlike Spain’s Costa del Sol, Vilamoura has kept its charm and has become a safe haven for many overseas property owners and residents due to the Portuguese way of life. For the golfer it is ideal as there five courses, all owned by Oceanico, which are situated north of the marina and are within a ten minute drive of each other. There is also Vila Sol, which is close by and travelling to the other well known courses of Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Sao Lourenco couldn’t be easier . There is a variety of accommodation choices, which you will find in our Algarve golf breaks, made up of modern hotels, villas and apartments all catering for every different type of holiday maker. With so much to do in Vilamoura your trip will be most memorable and whether you are looking for a quiet and relaxing stay or a busy trip with fun and exciting nightlife, Vilamoura will not disappoint. If you do seek to take in a little culture whilst on your Algarve golf breaks there are some fascinating places to visit such as Cerro da Vila, which is a museum and architectural site showing bronze age graves, Roman artefacts dating back to the 1st century AD, and evidence of Visigoth and Moorish civilisations. The cuisine in the Algarve has its emphasis on fish and shellfish, and with its choice of international cuisines there is something for every one on their Tee Times Algarve golf breaks to enjoy. |
