Tavira (East) |
Our east area for your Algarve golf breaks gives you the chance to enjoy a relatively unspoilt area of this part of the Algarve. You will be treated to beautiful beaches with their sands that seem to go on for ever, fields of orange trees, and hills covered with fig and almond trees. All these give a wonderful contrast to the whitewashed houses with their distinctive chimneys which are decorated to resemble the fine tracery of lace.Tavira is one of the most architecturally attractive towns on the Algarve and dates back to around 2000 BC.
Like most of the Algarve, Tavira’s buildings were virtually destroyed in the earthquake of 1755 but the town has since be rebuilt and with its fine 18th century architecture, 37 churches, and the Roman bridge over the river Gilao, which links the towns two halves, this is a splendid place to stay for your Tee Times Algarve golf breaks. There is much to do and see away from the golf courses of this area and a recommendation is to visit the wonderful towns and villages surrounding Tavira. In Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, you will be surrounded by flourishing almond and orange trees and experience a town typical of the Algarve’s limestone lands. The 16th century church with its decorated porch is made up of three naves and has columns with ionic capitals. Among the statues inside is the 16th century Nossa Senhora da Graca, meaning our lady of the grace, and the adoration of the shepherds is depicted on a painted panel. Another town of interest to see on one of our Algarve golf breaks to this area is Conceicao de Tavira which is the home of many farmers and Fishermen and with its old houses tucked down narrow streets and open views of the sea, will make you believe that you are in a place that time has forgotten. It too has a wonderful church which has gothic origins and boasts five re-entrant columns. There are statues from the 18th and 17th centuries and one of the churches true holy treasures is a 17th century silver monstrance. This is just a taste of what you can find away from the golf course in the Tavira area and with Luz de Tavira, Santo Estevao, Maragota and Santa Luzia worth a visit, plus the wonderful beaches, restaurants and bars of our east area of the Algarve you will not be disappointed if you decide to take your relaxing Tee Times Algarve golf breaks in Tavira.
