The towns of Alvor, a Neolithic village with traces of Roman occupation, Abicada, a Roman architectural site at the confluence of two rivers, and Alcalar, with its important Neolithic & Chalcolithic burial grounds dating back to 2000 & 1600 BC are well worth exploring as well as the Arade Estuary which was used by Greeks, Romans, Normans and Crusaders who sailed up its waters for thousands of years to Silves, intent on trade or conquest.
