Western Cape Region of South Africa |
![]() Following the success of Tee Times golf holidays to the Durban coast of South Africa, we are adding another area for you to enjoy a fabulous golf holiday in this wonderful country, so the Western Cape of South Africa has been chosen. The Western Cape is the 4th largest province in South Africa, it covers 130,000km2 and is situated in the south west corner of South Africa. The capital of the province is Cape Town and prior to 1994 the region that now forms the Western Cape was part of the huge, and now defunct, Cape Province. Before 1910 when the Union of South Africa was formed, the region was called the Cape Colony. After the inauguration in 1994 of South Africa’s first black President, Mr Nelson Mandela, the Cape Province as it was known, was broken into three areas called the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and the Western Cape, which is where we have decided to organise our golfing and activity breaks. The Western Cape set its self apart for sometime, from the other provinces in early post Apartheid history, as it rejected the ANC mandate and elected former Cape Province Law and Order minister Hernus Kriel as the first Premier of the Western Cape. The National Party dominated the running of the province, until it agreed to merge with the ANC in 2004, bringing stability to the province. The Capital city of the Western Province is Cape Town which is the second most populated city in South Africa. It is the provincial capital of the Western Cape as well as the legislative capital of South Africa. Cape Town is famous for its Harbour, which was originally developed as a supply station for Dutch ships sailing to Eastern Africa, India and the Far East. As this was the route they took before the Suez Canal was opened some 200 years later in 1869. In 1652 Cape Town was established by Jan Van Riebeeck as the first permanent European settlement in South Africa but Cape Town quickly outgrew its original purpose as the original European outpost at the Castle of Good Hope. Cape Town was originally the largest city in South Africa until the growth of Johannesburgh. Cape Town is one of the most popular South African tourist destinations and with its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom, and with such wonderful landmarks such as Table Mountain and Cape Point it is easy to see why this would make a fantastic destination for your Tee Times South African golf holiday. Our chosen area for your Tee Times Golf Agency UK’s South Africa golf holidays is known as the Garden Route so once you have left Cape Town you will be treated to a fantastic journey to our chosen accommodation at Cheetah Lodge, in Mossel Bay, which is approximately a 3&1/2 hour drive, or a connecting flight to George airport which is only 42km from Cheetah Lodge. If you decide to drive you will be treated to some spectacular and breathtaking scenery, which will make your journey during your golf holiday in South Africa, all the more worthwhile. The Garden route of the Western Cape has long been a popular scenic stretch of the southern coast of South Africa for tourists and with its maritime climate of moderately hot summers and mild winters it makes for an ideal, all year round, golf holiday destination. Ten nature reserves are located in the region as well as some unique marine reserves, which are home to soft coral reefs, Dolphins and seals. Some of the various bays along the Garden Routes coastline are home to nurseries for the endangered Southern Right Whale, which gather there to calve from July to December. The most popular way to explore the Garden Route is by car but a truly great experience during your visit is to take the last remaining African passenger steam train, the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe, which will provide a relaxed and breathtaking journey through the amazing landscape. There is so much to do in this region, apart from the magnificent golf courses, which include, Fancourt, Mossel Bay and Pinnacle point, that we at Tee Times believe this trip of a lifetime should not be missed. Our chosen accommodation at Cheetah Lodge will provide you with a first class and relaxed base where you can venture out to your chosen destination each day, all the golf courses are an easy drive from here and many other activities can be arranged, such as Safaris, site seeing tours and wine tasting tours, for you to enjoy during your Tee Times golf holiday adventure to South Africa.
